Community involvement is a vital part of the Sowerby Gateway planning process and there are plenty of ways for you to get involved.

We are working with Chrysalis Arts, an artist-led public art company which prides itself on transforming communities by working in harmony with local people. The company has developed a strategy to deliver creative involvement with local people and will assist with the planning, commissioning and funding of art to integrate with the wider development.

Chrysalis is heavily involved with the public consultation process and will be working with the community and the developers to identify opportunities for public art. The team will be encouraging the local people to become involved in the design process through participation in art workshops and will be visiting local schools to include the younger generation in the process.

Public art can bring a unique perspective to:

• Town squares
• Art & architecture
• Waymarkers
• Gateways
• Cycle routes
• Seating areas
• Entranceways
• Landmark sculptures
• Artwork paving & panels

Chrysalis Arts in collaboration with Rural Arts held a programme of collage workshops with local community groups in Autumn 2010. There will be an exhibition of the work in Spring 2011 at the Old Court House in Thirsk.

More Consultation and Workshops sessions on Public Art will continue in Spring 2011.
