  Public Art

Public art will be part of the landscape and architecture of Sowerby Gateway and add value and quality to it. Artists will draw upon local heritage and culture to inspire artwork that promotes the aspirations of the local community.

Public art is one way in which the local community can be involved with the Sowerby Gateway project. In association with Chrysalis Arts, public art will be created across the site, following input from those who wish to be involved.

This project may result in artists working with local people to create artwork for:

• Waymarkers
• Gateways
• Cycle routes
• Seating areas
• Entranceways
• Landmarks & sculptures
• Town squares
• Artwork paving
• Environmental installations

Artists can work with local people to participate in creating public art sustainably and the resulting artwork can be seen by a wider audience to represent a local perspective on sustainable development.

Chrysalis has developed a programme of consultation and workshops in collaboration with Rural Arts of Thirsk which will compile local photos, stories and references that can be accessed as a digital resource for the Sowerby Gateway development.
